I Got Here

Hello!!  Welcome to my blog.

So, I made it to Spain.  We took off from Chicago Wednesday at around 7:00 and arrived in Dublin at 8:30 the next morning (lots of time-zones:  the flight was really only 6 hours).   My goal for Dublin:  to find a bar, have some shepherds pie, and drink a Guinness.  There was an 8 hour lay over between flights, so I managed to find a bus and make my way over to the city.  I spent about three hours on and around O'Connell street and took a few pictures which I'll post.  Since it was so early, the bars weren't open so I had to settle with porridge and coffee - both a whole lot better than I expected.  After Dublin, I headed for Madrid.  The plane got in at around 7:30pm, and I headed straight for the apartment.  The conversation in the cab was limited, but he got me to the right place, so it all worked out.
So far Madrid seems nice.  Hot hot hot! Its about 95 right now.  I don't start class until Monday so I'll have some time to roam the city and figure things out.  The school I'll be going to is fairly close - within walking distance, and there are plenty of shops around where I can get most of what I need.  The roommates both seem nice.  One of them, Raul, is from Spain - he'll be coming back from vacation tomorrow night so I haven't actually met him in person yet.  Rachael (the other roommate) was here last night to let me in.  She is from England and is teaching at an English international school.  Some of the other teachers from her school were over when I got to the apartment, so I was able to meet other English speaking people.  We all went out for dinner and had a great time.

Nice, more to come once I've settled in.

Adios

  1. Dublin looks as gloomy as I imagined. No wonder the Irish make such a good beer.
